涟漪 Lianyi

LianYi is a tabletop organizer tray created in collaboration with traditional lacquer artisans from Chengdu. Its name, meaning “ripples” in Chinese, draws inspiration from a quiet scene after rainfall in Chengdu — ginkgo leaves drifting gently across the surface of a pond.

The tray incorporates Chengdu’s distinctive carved silver silk gloss lacquer technique. Ripple-like textures are carved into the wooden base, while specially treated tin foil pieces shaped as ginkgo leaves are carefully embedded beneath layers of natural lacquer. Through the repeated application and polishing of lacquer, the surface gains a rich sense of transparency and depth, reminiscent of autumn water. Around the silver ginkgo leaves, faint koi fish gradually emerge beneath the surface — appearing like hidden paintings suspended within the lacquer itself.

LIANYIis both a functional object and a quiet reflection of Chengdu’s natural atmosphere and lacquer heritage.
